Paris Saint-Germain beat Brest 1-0 at the Stade Francis Le Ble on Sunday, claiming their first Ligue 1 win of the season in the fourth round of matches. Ferran Torres scored in the fourth minute to settle a game that had been preceded by an emotional tribute to former Brest coach Eric Roy.
The win lifted Luis Enrique's side to seventh place in the table, level on points and goal difference with Brest, who sit eighth. Both clubs had five points before kickoff.
Tribute to Eric Roy
Before the match, players and staff paid tribute to Roy, who coached Brest for three and a half seasons and died on 17 June 2026 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 58. PSG captain Marquinhos and sporting adviser Luis Campos laid flowers at a bench inside the Stade Francis Le Ble.
Stade Brestois thanked Paris Saint-Germain for the gesture. The club said it was grateful to Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique, Marquinhos and Luis Campos for honouring Eric Roy with a wreath of flowers placed in front of the technical area, the spot where he used to sit during matches.
Brest supporters sang in tribute to Roy throughout the evening, including well into the second half.
Torres strikes early
PSG took the lead after a swift move involving several players. Ousmane Dembele produced a backheel flick that released Torres, who finished low past the post to make it 1-0. It was the World Cup winner's second goal contribution in as many matches, coming three days after PSG had thrashed Bratislava at the Parc des Princes in midweek. The report had cautioned before kickoff against reading too much into that midweek scoreline, noting Brest's recent record of resisting stronger opponents and the relative weakness of the Slovak side PSG had just beaten.
Brest hit the post, Safonov keeps PSG ahead
Brest came close to an immediate equaliser at the start of the second half. A stray pass from Nuno Mendes across his own third was intercepted by Doumbia, whose shot struck the post. Mendes apologised to teammates for the error.
PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov then produced a key save, denying a header from Doumbia after a cross from Locko. Willian Pacho also stepped in to cut out a cross intended for Ajorque in front of the PSG goal, and Safonov made another crucial stop late on to deny Pathe Mboup.
PSG chances pile up
PSG dominated for large spells without adding to their lead. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia shot straight at Brest goalkeeper Noe-Dylan Selvik after a move involving Joao Neves and Torres. Vitinha then set up Neves for a header at the far post that narrowly missed, before Neves was denied again moments later, heading over an Akliouche cross that Selvik cleared off the line.
Desire Doue also came close, curling a shot just wide of the post after Mendes drew a defender out of position on the left. PSG were introduced Doue and Akliouche in place of Kvaratskhelia and Dembele in the 65th minute as they pushed to extend their advantage, but the score stayed at 1-0.
Substitutions and a booking
PSG made further changes late on, bringing on Mika Godts for Torres and Dro Fernandez for Warren Zaire-Emery, with Neves moving to right back. Fernandez was booked in the 86th minute for a strong tackle. Three minutes of stoppage time were added before the final whistle confirmed PSG's win.
