Paris Saint-Germain has re-signed French left-back Lucas Digne from Aston Villa on a contract running until 2029, the reigning European champions announced on Sunday.
PSG did not disclose the transfer details, but British media reported that an 8.5 million pound release clause, worth almost 60 million reais, was triggered.
Return to Paris
Digne returns to the French capital 11 years after leaving PSG, where he played for two seasons between 2013 and 2015, winning two Ligue 1 titles, a Coupe de France and two League Cups.
Digne said he felt very honored to return to Paris Saint-Germain after the wonderful experience he had there more than 10 years ago, adding that he was looking forward to starting this new chapter and putting all his experience at the service of the team.
Career path
The defender began his professional career at Lille before joining PSG and later spent a season on loan at Roma. He then moved to Barcelona in 2016, making 46 appearances over two seasons and winning a La Liga title, two Copa del Rey trophies and a Spanish Super Cup.
Digne joined Everton in 2018 and spent almost four years there before moving to Aston Villa. The 33-year-old spent four and a half seasons at Villa Park, becoming a key player under manager Unai Emery and winning the Europa League last season.
Digne has played for the French national team since 2014, earning 64 caps and appearing at two World Cups, finishing runner-up in 2022 and reaching fourth place at the most recent tournament.
