Real Madrid has officially completed the signing of 19-year-old Ivory Coast international winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig on a seven-year contract. The deal keeps Diomande at the Spanish club until June 30, 2033. The announcement makes him the sixth signing of the summer transfer window for Real Madrid.
The transfer was expected for several days, though the final stage of negotiations took longer than planned. Real Madrid confirmed in an official statement that it had reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the player's transfer. Diomande, who plays as a right winger, had returned to Leipzig for pre-season training following his vacation.
However, his departure was only a matter of time. On Thursday, he left the German team's training session to board a flight to Spain's capital, where he passed his medical examination and signed his contract.
Transfer fee and Leipzig season
Diomande, who turns 20 on November 14, attracted interest from top European clubs after an impressive season with RB Leipzig. The German club had signed him from CD Leganés for 20 million euros just one year ago.
During the last Bundesliga season, Diomande scored 12 goals in 33 matches for RB Leipzig. The German club will now receive an amount close to 130 million euros for the young winger with great potential.
International stats and summer signings
At the World Cup in the United States, Diomande was the Ivory Coast player who delivered the most crosses into the box, recording 21 crosses and providing one assist in 361 minutes of play. He was the third most used player for his national team during the tournament, behind only goalkeeper Fofana and Kessie.
The Ivorian winger is the sixth addition to manager Mourinho's new Real Madrid team this summer. He joins earlier arrivals Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, and Carlos Espí.
