Real Madrid win Teresa Herrera Trophy against A Coruna

Real Madrid won the Teresa Herrera Trophy on Wednesday after securing a 1-0 victory over Deportivo A Coruña in a pre-season friendly in Spain. The result secured the traditional summer trophy for the Spanish club as they continue their pre-season preparations.

Manager Jose Mourinho used the match to test Brazilian forwards Vinicius Junior and Endrick together in the starting lineup for the first time. Vinicius Junior, who wears the number seven shirt, made his first start under the Portuguese coach after rejoining squad training nine days ago to rebuild his match fitness.

Endrick started alongside his compatriot in attack before being substituted at half-time. Vinicius Junior remained on the pitch until the middle of the second half before coming off as Mourinho continued to adjust his lineup.

Brahim Diaz scored the decisive goal of the match during the first half following an individual effort. The goal originated when Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin launched a long pass downfield, allowing Diaz to construct a solo play and beat the Deportivo goalkeeper.

Attacking combination and pre-season progress

Mourinho had previously paired the two Brazilian forwards on the pitch during Real Madrid's friendly against Hungarian side Ferencvaros in Hungary. In that 2-1 victory, Endrick started the game while Vinicius Junior entered as a second-half substitute, leading Mourinho to start both players in the offensive line against Deportivo.

Wednesday's win over Deportivo A Coruña marked Real Madrid's fifth match of their pre-season schedule. Prior to the fixture in A Coruna, Mourinho's side recorded victories against Spanish clubs Alcorcon and Leganes, drew with Italian side Fiorentina, and defeated Ferencvaros.

The Teresa Herrera Trophy is a long-standing pre-season tournament held annually in the Galician city of A Coruna in northwestern Spain. Real Madrid, who compete in Spain's top-flight La Liga, frequently play in summer exhibition tournaments as part of their preparation for domestic and European competitions.

Germany friendly and La Liga schedule

Mourinho's team will play one final pre-season friendly before starting their official competitive campaign. The Spanish team will travel to Germany on Sunday to face German side Schalke 04 in their concluding warm-up match.

Real Madrid will not feature in the opening weekend of the Spanish domestic season. The club's scheduled La Liga fixture against Basque club Real Sociedad has been postponed to August 26, meaning their official league debut will take place on August 22 in an away match against Espanyol.
