River Plate has agreed to sign midfielder Thiago Almada from Atletico Madrid, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The transfer is worth around 20 million euros, roughly 118 million reais.
The deal ends a dispute over the player, who had also drawn interest from Flamengo. Flamengo's director of football, Jose Boto, had said the Rio de Janeiro club would not take part in a bidding war for the player.

Almada came through Velez Sarsfield's academy before building an international career. He played for Atlanta United in the United States, then joined Botafogo in 2024, where he won the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian championship.
International titles
With the Argentina national team, Almada was part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He also featured in Argentina's campaign at the 2026 World Cup, held across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
