Rocky Flintoff, the 18-year-old son of England cricket great Freddie Flintoff, scored his maiden century for Lancashire on Tuesday. Playing against Somerset in the Metro Bank One Day Cup at Taunton, he smashed 123 off just 76 balls as Lancashire posted a mammoth 443-6 from their 50 overs.
Flintoff struck 10 fours and seven sixes in the blazing sunshine, reaching his hundred off just 65 balls. He put on a 214-run stand for the fourth wicket with former England opener Keaton Jennings, who scored 156.
Flintoff was eventually dismissed by South African bowler Migael Pretorius, caught by Archie Vaughan, son of 2005 Ashes-winning England captain Michael Vaughan and a former teammate of Freddie Flintoff.
Breakthrough season for Lancashire
Flintoff made his First-Class and List A debuts for Lancashire as a 16-year-old in 2024, becoming the club's youngest ever player at 16 years and 113 days. He missed much of the 2025 season through injury but has been given a run of opportunities in recent weeks, having signed a new two-year contract with Lancashire earlier this year.
With several of Lancashire's senior batters away playing in The Hundred, Flintoff has appeared in seven of the club's eight group matches in the One Day Cup. Tuesday's century took him to 293 runs at an average of 73.25 across seven innings, making him the competition's third-highest run scorer for Lancashire behind Jennings and Australian batter Marcus Harris.
Cricket's next generation
Flintoff remains a regular for England's Under-19 side and scored a century for the England Lions against a Cricket Australia XI in early 2025. He is one of several sons of England's 2005 Ashes-winning generation making their mark in the sport.
Vaughan, 20, is a regular top-order batter and off-spin bowler for Somerset's One Day and First-Class sides. Charlie Harmison, son of former England fast bowler Steve Harmison, plays for Durham and lined up alongside Flintoff for England's Under-19 team earlier this summer, while Rocky's older brother Corey had a short spell with Kent last summer.
Freddie Flintoff played 79 Tests for England, including the 2005 and 2009 Ashes series victories, as well as 141 ODIs and seven T20Is. He had been in charge of the England Lions, the team Rocky played for, until stepping down from the role last week.
