Shakhtar Goalkeeper Fesyun's Career at Risk After Infection

Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Kyril Fesyun is facing a serious health problem that could end his professional career, journalist Ihor Burbas said on his YouTube channel.

According to Burbas, Fesyun was bitten by a tick several months ago and the bite went unnoticed at the time. The late detection allowed a severe infection to develop in his body, causing inflammation of internal organs, with his heart affected the most. Burbas said the infection had damaged the body and led to inflammation of internal organs, with the heart suffering the most, adding that there is currently damage and inflammation of the heart.

Burbas said Shakhtar's medical staff reacted quickly and brought in specialists to examine the player in detail. He said doctors who examined Fesyun at Shakhtar said that if the issue had not been caught in time, it would have definitely threatened the end of his career, but that no one can currently offer a prognosis.

Treatment and career

Fesyun is now undergoing intensive drug therapy aimed at stopping the inflammation and stabilising his health. Only after that will doctors discuss whether he can resume his professional career.

Because of the health issue, Fesyun missed every sparring match during Shakhtar's preseason training camp in Slovenia. He joined Shakhtar in June 2024 from Kolos Kovalivka and played 8 official matches in all competitions last season.
