Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham had to be held back by teammates and staff on Saturday after being floored by a brutal foul from Chicago Sky rival DiJonai Carrington. The clash occurred toward the end of the first quarter when Cunningham drove towards the basket and was struck in the face.

Carrington was assessed a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the game over the incident. Cunningham, a 29-year-old whose lip appeared to be bloodied, climbed to her feet and attempted to confront Carrington before being dragged away.

Courtside confrontation and controversy
Courtside footage from the game appeared to show Cunningham call Carrington a "dumb a** b****" and shout, "Why the f*** would you do that?"
Cunningham was back in the headlines following the clash after being at the center of a sporting and political firestorm in recent weeks. The attention followed comments she made about transgender athletes, where she said she wants to "protect young girls" from "biological men."
