Sporting de Braga travel to Austria Vienna on Thursday to defend a two-goal lead in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off tie.
The Portuguese side secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Minho, putting them within reach of securing a spot in the main league phase of UEFA's third-tier European club competition.
Spanish forward Pau Víctor opened the scoring with a penalty in the 25th minute at the Municipal de Braga, before Diego Rodrigues added a second goal in the 88th minute to establish the advantage.
Braga coach Carlos Vicens took charge of the opening leg without captain Ricardo Horta, and the Portuguese international forward will remain unavailable for the deciding match in Austria.
Horta, who is considered the team's key figure and leading attacker, continues to recover from a right leg muscle injury that ruled him out of the first meeting.
Squad news and defensive record
Despite the absence of their captain, Braga enter the second leg at the 17,000-capacity Arena Generali boasting an unbeaten defensive record in European qualifying this season.
The Minho team have not conceded a single goal across their qualifying campaign while scoring eight times, a record that has bolstered confidence within the squad ahead of the decisive clash in Vienna.
A victory or draw would see Braga become only the second Portuguese club to reach the Conference League phase, following the achievement of regional rivals Vitória de Guimarães in the 2024/25 season.
During that campaign, Vitória finished second in the league phase behind English side Chelsea, who went on to win the tournament by defeating Spanish club Real Betis in the final after Betis eliminated Vitória in the round of 16.
Stakes and domestic scheduling
An unexpected defeat against Austria Vienna, who finished fourth in the Austrian top flight last season, would result in an early exit from European competition for Braga in the 2026/27 campaign.
Elimination would leave the club focused entirely on domestic competitions, albeit with a lighter fixture calendar for the remainder of the season.
To ensure maximum preparation and avoid a premature European departure, both Braga and Austria Vienna had their domestic league fixtures postponed over the preceding weekend.
The deciding match at the Arena Generali is scheduled to kick off at 19:30, corresponding to 20:30 local time in Austria.
Montenegrin referee Nikola Dabanovic has been appointed to take charge of the encounter.
