Greek actor Stavros Svigkos monitored AEK Athens's European football match against Austrian side LASK from his theater dressing room before taking the stage, even searching the audience for score updates during his performance.
Speaking on the protothema.gr show The Football Show by Stoiximan, Svigkos revealed that his theater engagement coincided with AEK's major European fixture, forcing him to keep track of the action while preparing for his role.
AEK Athens, officially known as Athletic Union of Constantinople, is one of Greece's most prominent football clubs, competing regularly in European club tournaments. Theater productions in Athens frequently overlap with midweek European matches, leaving football-loving actors to balance their performances on stage with live score alerts back in the dressing rooms.
Audience reactions from the stage
Svigkos explained that he watched the match broadcast in his dressing room up to the 70th minute. When Jovic scored near the 70-minute mark, the actor thought he could go out to perform in peace without worrying about the fixture, but the goal was subsequently disallowed, he added laughing.
Once he stepped onto the stage, Svigkos said he initially managed to set aside his anxiety over the result. However, his focus returned during a scene in the play that required him to sit quietly in a corner without speaking.
During that silent period on stage, Svigkos admitted that he scanned the audience to see if any theatergoers were watching the game on their devices or showing reactions that might reveal what was happening on the pitch, though he spotted no signs.
