Sunderland have submitted a loan offer to sign Manchester City winger Jack Grealish as the summer transfer window enters its final week.
It is understood that Sunderland's bid includes covering a portion of the 30-year-old player's salary to secure his services for the season.
Grealish has returned to Manchester City's first-team squad this season, featuring as a substitute in their opening two matches. City are leaving all options open for the England international, including a permanent sale, another loan move, or keeping him in the squad with potentially limited playing time.
The winger spent last season on loan at Everton, and chief executive Angus Kinnear confirmed that the Merseyside club have also remained in contact with City over a possible deal.
Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca has not ruled out a transfer either, speaking after Sunday's win over Bournemouth.
"He is here and it is my duty to coach Jack and to try to get the best," Maresca said.
"Then it is one more week to go and we will see what happens. Not only with Jack but also other players," the manager added.
Manchester City transfer activity
City are managing several player movements before the transfer deadline. Forward Omar Marmoush is having a medical at Tottenham Hotspur today, while winger Nico Gonzalez is finalising his move to Newcastle United.
The Premier League champions are also completing the signing of winger Allan Elias from Brazilian side Palmeiras. City are also expected to submit an official bid for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Sunderland winger targets
Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris considers winger a position of importance for his team and has targeted multiple wide players. In addition to Grealish, Sunderland have held talks with French club Marseille over 26-year-old Brazilian winger Igor Paixao.
Leeds United previously checked on Paixao, but Sunderland are understood to have submitted an offer earlier this week, with negotiations currently continuing.
Sunderland have also been in discussions with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon regarding Mozambique international winger Geny Catamo.
