A 16-year-old girl in Tennessee faces criminal charges after storming onto the field and tackling a middle school football player on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred during a game between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School, hosted at Franklin County High School in Winchester. Tensions erupted after South scored a touchdown and an extra point, triggering a brief scuffle between opposing players on the gridiron.
Video footage of the game showed the teenage girl suddenly sprinting onto the field and charging toward a South player involved in the altercation. She leveled the player with a hard tackle, sending both of them crashing onto the turf. As the stunned player attempted to stand back up, the teenager shoved him back down a second time before a man who appeared to be a coach rushed over to step between them and prevent further physical attack.

Police charges and district bans
According to news station WSMV, a school resource officer met the 16-year-old as she was escorted off the field, and she was subsequently released into the custody of her parents. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has reportedly charged the teenager with assault and disorderly conduct.
School district officials and state athletic authorities acted quickly following the altercation. The teenager was served with a lifetime trespass ban covering all Franklin County Schools properties. In addition, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association issued a ban prohibiting her from attending any athletic events involving Cornersville Middle School, whether played at home or away.
Franklin County Schools oversees public education facilities across the county in southern Tennessee, while the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association serves as the governing body for middle and high school interscholastic sports competitions state-wide.

South Dakota soccer investigation
The incident in Tennessee comes as law enforcement authorities in South Dakota conduct a separate criminal investigation into a violent fight that marred a high school soccer match.
The soccer altercation occurred last week just minutes before halftime during a match between the Brookings High School Bobcats and the Rapid City Central Cobblers. Following a collision on the pitch, Jaxson Bergman of Rapid City Central confronted Brookings player Kyler Soost, shoving him to the turf before kicking him on the back of the head and launching a barrage of punches to his head.
Match referees and coaches sprinted onto the field to halt the attack, while a teammate of Soost confronted Bergman. Officials issued Bergman a red card, ejecting him from the contest, and play resumed after a 10-minute delay.

The match was streamed live on YouTube, and video clips of the fight quickly spread across social media, sparking calls from viewers for Bergman to receive a lifetime sports ban. Brookings Police confirmed to local news station KELOLAND that officers are actively investigating the incident, with plans to interview more than 100 witnesses and analyze extensive video footage of the fight.
