Thiago Almada Explains Choosing River Plate Over Flamengo

Thiago Almada has chosen to sign for River Plate over Flamengo after the Argentine club completed a 20 million euro deal with Atletico de Madrid. The 20 million euro fee, equivalent to about 119 million reais, makes Almada the most expensive signing in the history of River Plate. Almada signed a contract with the club running until 2030 after River Plate won the race against Brazilian club Flamengo for his signature.

Speaking in an interview with Rádio La Red, Almada explained that conversations with manager Eduardo Coudet about his project for the club were crucial. He said he made his decision during his vacation after speaking with Coudet and did not hesitate. He added that he missed the pressure of Argentine football and highlighted his mother's love for River Plate, noting she asked him for his first jersey.

Training and Expectations at River Plate

After taking more than two weeks of vacation, Almada said he is giving his maximum in training and regaining his rhythm with the ball. He stated that he feels good and views his new role at River Plate as a great challenge.

Almada compared his current situation at River Plate to his experience joining Botafogo in 2024. He explained that he is aware of the high expectations and excitement at the club, adding that he is approaching the move with the same mindset and is confident that everything will go well.
