Istanbul police arrested Turkish sports journalist Burhan Can Terzi on Monday, August 10, over his repeated claims that Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala was about to sign for Galatasaray.
Terzi, who founded the outlet SportCell, had insisted for several days that Musiala's move to the reigning Turkish champions was close to being finalized. Both Bayern Munich and Galatasaray denied the claim.
Arrest and investigation
Officers came to arrest the 23-year-old outside his home. The local prosecutor's office said the case involved the public dissemination of misleading information. According to sources in Istanbul, Galatasaray was not behind the investigation; fans reportedly reported Terzi's posts to police, prompting them to open the case.
Terzi was released a few hours later following questioning, with no further restrictions placed on him. To try to prove his claims were made in good faith, he was made to reveal his sources to investigators, but he continued to stand by his reporting.
Musiala, an attacking midfielder, remains under contract with Bayern Munich until June 2030 and has shown no sign of moving to Galatasaray.
The arrest comes just hours after a separate case involving Galatasaray made headlines, when a large sum of cash, gold and jewelry was discovered at the home of the leader of the club's ultras group.
