Vasco da Gama defeated rival Fluminense 3-1 at the Maracanã stadium on Wednesday to reach the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals. The result gave Vasco a 3-1 aggregate victory following a scoreless first leg at the same venue.
Vasco eliminated Fluminense from the tournament for the second consecutive year. The club reached the quarter-finals for the third straight edition and remains the only team from Rio de Janeiro in the competition.

Striker Brenner, a former Fluminense player, scored Vasco's first two goals with one in each half. Martinelli scored for Fluminense to cut the lead, but Puma Rodríguez secured the victory on the final play of the match.
The fixture at the Maracanã was attended by 48,794 supporters. A draw on Tuesday will determine Vasco's quarter-final opponent and establish the bracket leading to the single-match final.
