Sevilla FC beat Valencia CF 1-0, and football pundit Víctor Fernández gave his verdict on every player who featured, awarding a maximum mark of 10 to right back Juan Iglesias while handing several of the club's attacking players some of the lowest grades of the afternoon.
Fernández assessed the Sevilla squad's individual performances after the win, and said Iglesias had turned the right flank into a place where nobody gets past him. He added that the full back never makes mistakes, never gets injured and scores goals.
Fernández uses the familiar Spanish school-style scale of one to ten, on which five is considered a passing mark and anything below it a failing one, to grade each player's display.
Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos received a 6, with Fernández describing him as a reliable keeper who turned in what he called a classic pass mark at home, nothing more.
Solid defence and midfield
In the centre of the defence, Castrín earned a 7 for his physical firmness, a mark Fernández said showed the club now has academy-produced centre backs who are fully established at first-team level. Kike Salas went one better with an 8, praised as the true spiritual leader of the group.
Left back Gabriel Suazo picked up a 6 after what Fernández called an improved display compared with previous matches. In midfield, Lucien Agoumé was given an 8, while Manuel Fofana topped the pair with a 9. Fernández described Fofana as the brilliant student you could tell not to even bother sitting the exam because he already had a 10 in the bag, adding that his mark was only lowered because he had asked to be substituted with a physical problem.
Struggles up front
Sevilla's attacking players drew the greyest marks of the match. Sierra was given a 5 for what Fernández called one of his worst games in a Sevilla shirt, and Romero also received a 5. Fernández was blunt in assessing Romero, saying he has become a player who is only useful for defending and contributes nothing in attack.
The only failing grade of the game went to debutant Félix Correia, who was marked with a 4. Fernández said Correia looked very lost in the position he played, adding that he is not a winger or a dribbler but a midfielder.
Elsewhere in attack, Stassin, Chidera Ejuke and Robbie Ure all received a passing 5. At set pieces, Kochorashvili was rated more highly with a 7, singled out by Fernández as one of the best players Sevilla had on the pitch.
Substitutes and closing marks
The substitutions used late in the match rounded off the individual grades. Julio Díaz and Jon Guridi, who both came on with seven minutes left to play, were given a joint 6, the same mark handed to LGP for the day.
Sevilla FC, based in the southern Spanish city of Seville, and Valencia CF, from the eastern city of Valencia, are two of the more established names in Spanish football's top division, La Liga, and both have a long history of European competition.
