Vitória defeated Athletico-PR 4-0 at the Manoel Barradas stadium in Salvador to advance to the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals. The victory reversed a 2-0 first-leg loss at the Arena da Baixada in Paraná.
Renê scored two goals, while Erick and Marinho added one each as Vitória capitalized on mistakes by Athletico-PR goalkeeper Santos.
First Half Goals
Vitória pressed from the kickoff to reduce the deficit and opened the scoring early in the first half. Baralhas struck a shot that Santos parried into the path of Renê, who finished into the net.
Athletico-PR maintained a defensive strategy to threaten on counter-attacks, but failed to put any shots on target. Vitória controlled possession and doubled their lead in the final minute of stoppage time when Erick scored to level the aggregate tie.
Second Half Action
Athletico-PR manager Odair Hellmann made substitutions at halftime, leading to early second-half pressure from the visiting side. Vitória goalkeeper Lucas Arcanjo made four consecutive saves to keep Athletico-PR out.
Vitória then scored their third goal as Renê found the net for the second time. Athletico-PR players argued that Santos was fouled during the play, but the referee validated the goal.
Athletico-PR hit the post through Vargas in the 37th minute of the second half. Marinho completed the 4-0 victory with a late goal for the home team.
