Former Dynamo Kyiv defender Volodymyr Bezsonov has given up alcohol completely after a doctor warned that knee problems would leave him in a wheelchair. Sport.ua reported that a conversation with his physician prompted the decision.
Bezsonov said his doctor told him to stop drinking if he wanted to keep walking, warning that he would otherwise end up using a wheelchair. The former USSR national team player added that he had no choice after hearing the warning.
Reflecting on his playing career, Bezsonov stated that while he drank alcohol back then, it never impacted his professional work. He said he never attended training drunk, noting that anyone who allows themselves a drink must remain accountable through their performance.
Bezsonov is among the most famous players in the history of Dynamo Kyiv. During his career with the capital club, he won multiple USSR championships, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup, while also representing the USSR team.
