Goalkeeper Vozinha, of Cape Verde, was unveiled on Tuesday as a new signing for Colo-Colo of Chile. A standout of the 2026 World Cup, he explained why he chose the Chilean club, saying he was seeking a bigger challenge in his career.
Vozinha said the decision was very clear to him. He said that despite always playing in small leagues and for clubs that were not very big, he always told himself he was not just a small-club player, and that when Colo-Colo, the biggest club in Chile, came calling, he had no doubts.
Knowledge of Chilean football
Vozinha also spoke about his familiarity with Chilean football, naming historic players such as Ivan Zamorano, Marcelo Salas and former Palmeiras midfielder Jorge Valdivia. He said he knew a lot about Chile's past national teams and had closely followed the Copa Libertadores, which he said is a very strong competition for people in Cape Verde. He added that the Chilean league is very competitive and that he had always sought to play at that level for such a big club.
Vozinha is expected at Estadio Monumental, Colo-Colo's home ground, on Wednesday to be presented to fans. Around 42,000 people are expected to attend to welcome him.
