Wojciech Szczęsny earns high marks in Barcelona pre-season

FC Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny received strong reviews from Spanish newspapers following his performances in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Cup. Hansi Flick's team prepared for the upcoming season during the friendly tournament before starting their La Liga campaign away at Elche on August 23.

Reviews for Nottingham Forest match

Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo reported that Szczęsny was focused during Barcelona's 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest. The publication highlighted his action after a lateral pass and his save in a one-on-one situation against Igor Jesus, noting that he blocked the shot by reading the player's intentions.

Daily newspaper Sport also noted the goalkeeper's focus, adding that he worked hard during pre-season and is regaining high form. The Spanish outlet reported that while his play on the line was not fully refined and he misplaced a few kicks, he responded confidently when needed and pointed to his 38th-minute one-on-one save as a classic example of anticipation.

Performance in Udinese defeat

Szczęsny also featured in a 0-1 loss to Udinese, which served as the final match of the mini-tournament. Mundo Deportivo reported that the goalkeeper had a lot of work against the Italian team and was beaten in the last minute of the first 45 minutes following several good but unconventional actions.

Sport wrote that Szczęsny appeared overwhelmed and showed signs of fatigue despite having less work, though he came out well when required before conceding the goal. The upcoming campaign will be Szczęsny's third season with Barcelona, where his contract runs until the end of June 2027.
