FC Porto forward André Silva sprained his right ankle during the club's 2-0 league win over Alverca, but medical exams have ruled out ligament or bone damage, the club said.
Silva's return to league action at the Estádio do Dragão brought a mix of emotions. The forward won two penalties and converted one of them, but left the pitch in the 82nd minute in pain after twisting his right ankle.
After the match, Silva admitted he was worried about the injury, saying it had spoiled what he called a childhood dream. Coach Francesco Farioli echoed that concern, saying that judging by the images, the sprain did not look good.
Exams bring relief for FC Porto
The 30-year-old forward was reassessed, and the clinical exams brought the relief the club had been hoping for. There is no ligament or bone injury. Silva suffered a sprain in his right ankle, and FC Porto said his recovery will be evaluated day by day by the club's medical department, meaning no firm timeline for his return has been set.
For now, Silva is in doubt for FC Porto's match against Rio Ave on Saturday. The club's medical bulletin also revealed that midfielder Alan Varela suffered a sprain in his right ankle.
Roma pushing for Rodrigo Mora loan
Separately, Roma coach Gianluca Gasperini is pressing his club to finalize a deal for FC Porto forward Rodrigo Mora as quickly as possible. According to Italian media reports, Roma have offered 5 million euros for a loan of the player, plus 45 million euros for an option to make the move permanent.
Jorge Mendes, Mora's agent, is set to meet with FC Porto president Villas-Boas to try to reach an agreement. Villas-Boas, however, insists that Mora's release clause stands at 70 million euros.
