France Football magazine revealed the nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or on Tuesday, and the men's best coach category is dominated by Spanish managers. Four of the five candidates named in the category come from Spain.
The list is headed by Luis Enrique, who led Paris Saint-Germain to the French league title and to back-to-back Champions League triumphs during the 2025-26 season.
Also nominated is Luis de la Fuente, who guided Spain to victory at this year's World Cup. He is the only one of the five nominees who does not manage a club.
Arteta, Emery and Kompany complete the list
Mikel Arteta is included among the contenders after leading Arsenal to the Premier League title. Unai Emery was recognised for Aston Villa's winning campaign in the Europa League.
Vincent Kompany rounds out the shortlist. The Belgian is the only foreign coach among the nominees and had a standout season at Bayern Munich, winning every domestic competition the German club contested.
Ceremony moves to London
The winners in each category will be announced on 26 October at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, which will be held in London, England, this year.
The event usually takes place in France and is marking its 70th anniversary in 2026. Organisers changed the venue to honour former England forward Stanley Matthews, who was the first winner of the Ballon d'Or.
Luis Enrique was 2025's champion
Luis Enrique, PSG's manager, was crowned the best coach of 2025 after a standout year. The Spaniard lifted the French league title, the French Cup and the club's second consecutive Champions League trophy.
PSG also reached the final of the Fifa Club World Cup but finished as runners-up, losing the decisive match to Chelsea 3-0.
