Paris Saint-Germain lost 2-1 to AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes on Friday, leaving Luis Enrique's side still without a Ligue 1 win through three matches this season.
Monaco's victory, its third in as many matches, kept the principality club top of the table, with two of those wins coming against Olympique de Marseille and PSG.
Before kickoff PSG sat eleventh in the standings after two draws, at Rennes and at Lille, while Monaco arrived at the Parc des Princes as league leaders following opening wins over Marseille and Le Havre.
Marquinhos breaks the deadlock
PSG had the better of the early chances. In the 10th minute, Achraf Hakimi's shot was blocked after a run down the right, Desire Doue's follow-up was saved by goalkeeper Hradecky, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia blazed the rebound over the bar.
Paris took the lead in the 31st minute when captain Marquinhos finished with his chest after Kvaratskhelia, sent through on the left by Fabian Ruiz, delivered a cross into the box.
PSG went in at half-time 1-0 up, the first time this season they had led at the break, having conceded the opening goal in both of their previous league matches, against Rennes and Lille.
Monaco hits back twice
Monaco came out for the second half without making any changes and immediately looked more threatening. In the 48th minute, Akliouche struck the crossbar from another Kvaratskhelia cross, a warning PSG failed to heed.
Monaco equalised in the 57th minute. Teze's pass set up Coulibaly, who looped a cross to the far post where Nazinho headed home, with Joao Neves too far away to challenge for the ball.
Idumbo puts Monaco ahead
Monaco took the lead in the 71st minute. Idumbo got the better of Marquinhos down the left side of the box, with Zakaria credited for the buildup work, and lifted a shot under the bar past goalkeeper Safonov to make it 2-1.
PSG push for an equaliser late on
Warren Zaire-Emery had been replaced at half-time by Lucas Hernandez, who was booked in the 66th minute for a heavy obstruction. Ferran Torres came on for Doue just after the hour, while Mika Godts and Ousmane Dembele replaced Kvaratskhelia and Akliouche in the 67th minute.
PSG laid siege to the Monaco box for the rest of the match but struggled to get past eleven Monaco defenders chasing a third win in three games. Godts failed to pick out a run from Lucas Hernandez in the 80th minute, and a Ferran Torres goal was ruled out for offside against Dembele at the start of the move in the 83rd minute.
Hakimi forced a save with a deflected shot in the closing stages, and five minutes of stoppage time were added. Dembele went closest to an equaliser, curling a shot just wide of the far post in the 93rd minute before Hradecky produced a fine save to deny another effort flying toward the top corner a minute later.
Monaco held on to win 2-1. Despite the result, home fans applauded the PSG players at the final whistle rather than booing them, a sign they were not alarmed by the club's difficult start to the season.
New pitch and pre-match ceremony
PSG played at the Parc des Princes for the first time this season, on a new pitch imported from Ireland. Before kickoff, Marquinhos presented the European Super Cup trophy to supporters alongside four new signings introduced to the crowd: Lucas Digne, Mika Godts, Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche.
The club also announced contract extensions for Joao Neves, Beraldo, Pacho, Mayulu and head coach Luis Enrique, whose new deal came as a surprise since negotiations had not been concluded earlier in the week.
