The match kicks off at 8:00 pm local time in Lisbon, with Italian referee Marco Guida appointed to officiate the encounter. The Portuguese side enter the final qualifying tie aiming to secure a place in the main league phase of Europe's secondary club competition.

Marco Silva's side approach the fixture with renewed confidence following a 7-0 victory away to Casa Pia in the Primeira Liga four days ago. That high-scoring win helped steady the team after an uncertain opening to their domestic campaign.

Benfica endured a difficult start to the domestic season, opening with a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Académico de Viseu in a match played behind closed doors. Silva, who took charge as manager this season, continues to build his squad as the transfer window remains open.

Squad updates and qualifying path

The Lisbon club remain active in the transfer market while awaiting further reinforcements. Benfica are still seeking a new midfielder, having already completed the signing of central defender Circati to strengthen their backline.

Benfica were required to navigate two preliminary qualifying rounds after finishing third in the Portuguese top flight last season. Their entry into the qualifying phase was confirmed after Torreense won the Taça de Portugal, redirecting Benfica away from automatic European qualification.

Silva's team overcame Swiss side St. Gallen in the second preliminary round before tackling Scottish club Hearts in the third qualifying stage. A draw in Scotland proved sufficient to send Benfica through to this final play-off round.

Historical ties with Danish opponents

Aarhus represent a familiar opponent for Benfica in European competition. The Portuguese giants previously defeated the Danish champions during the 1960/61 season, when Benfica went on to win their first European Cup title.

The two clubs met again during the 1987/88 European Cup campaign, where Benfica once again eliminated Aarhus. Benfica subsequently reached the final of that tournament, where they were beaten by Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

Benfica are a major force in Portuguese football, regularly competing in European tournaments from their base at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon. Aarhus, one of Denmark's historic football clubs, qualify for European competition as champions of the Danish top flight.
