Chelsea allowed the marquee transfer to proceed despite experiencing late frustration in their own transfer dealings. The West London club maintained their commitment to sell Fernandez after reaching a full written agreement with Manchester City.
The transfer was briefly thrown into uncertainty when French club Monaco attempted to alter terms on a separate deal. Chelsea had agreed to sign midfielder Lamine Camara from Monaco, but the Ligue 1 side went back on their written club-to-club agreement.

The Wearside club are working through the remaining paperwork on a £31 million transfer, with optimism surrounding the potential deal.
Crystal Palace Secure Ben Chilwell Return
Crystal Palace were among the most active clubs in the closing hours of the transfer window, confirming the return of left-back Ben Chilwell from French side Strasbourg. The 29-year-old defender spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Selhurst Park, featuring 11 times during the Eagles' FA Cup-winning campaign.
Chilwell, who turned out 34 times for Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg after moving to France last summer, provides experienced defensive cover for Tyrick Mitchell while contributing to Palace's homegrown squad quota.

Crystal Palace officials worked down to the wire to ratify multiple transactions before the 11pm deadline. The South London club submitted deal sheets for Chilwell, Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber, and Midtjylland winger Diario Osorio, giving themselves until 1am to finalize all three transfers without needing to make immediate announcements.
