Former Colombian goalkeeper Nelson Ramos, who played for Millonarios and Bucaramanga, posted a video on social media showing damage to his building after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday, August 10.
The footage shows cracks inside his apartment and on the exterior of the building, along with objects that fell during the tremors.
Ramos said on Instagram that it had been difficult, adding that the damage was only material and that he hoped people in Cali, Pereira and Manizales were safe. He said the building where he lives, in Cali, would undergo a review by authorities to determine whether it remained habitable.
Rescue efforts continue
Ramos said he and his family were in good health and thanked people for asking, adding that they were now waiting outside for the building to be inspected. He said some situations in Cali were more complicated and that he hoped more people could be rescued.
The earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday left at least 132 people dead, according to authorities, with emergency crews continuing to dig through rubble of destroyed buildings and homes. In Cali, a city of about 2.2 million people, at least 35 people died, newly sworn-in President Abelardo de la Espriella said. Pereira was also badly affected.
Matches postponed
Conmebol said Monday that two matches in Colombia, Tolima against Independiente del Valle in the Copa Libertadores and Independiente Santa Fe against River Plate in the Copa Sudamericana, were postponed because of the earthquake.
