Ferran Torres agrees terms with PSG to leave FC Barcelona

Ferran Torres has reached a contractual agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to complete a transfer from FC Barcelona for around 50 million euros. Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported that the forward from Foios agreed to a four-year contract with the French club. The transfer between the two clubs is expected to be formalized early next week.

The proposed fee of 50 million euros is lower than the amount FC Barcelona originally committed when signing Torres from Manchester City in January 2022. The Spanish club agreed to pay 55 million euros plus 10 million euros in variables. Those variable clauses have all been fulfilled over his years at the club, bringing Barcelona's total payment to 65 million euros for the forward.

Contract clause and renewal bonus

A major factor behind FC Barcelona's willingness to sell is a contractual clause involving Manchester City. Under that agreement, Barcelona would owe Manchester City an additional bonus of around 8 million euros if Torres renews his contract, which currently expires in 2027.

According to a report by The Athletic, Barcelona is reluctant to pay that 8 million euro bonus because combining it with a new contract would make keeping Torres financially unviable. Unless the player accepted a major salary reduction, his continuation at the club was considered impossible, leading Barcelona to allow his exit without opposition.

Earlier in the transfer window, Barcelona had even considered using the Valencian forward as part of a swap deal to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico de Madrid. However, Torres recently called manager Flick directly to inform him of his desire to leave for Paris Saint-Germain, prompting negotiations between the two clubs to begin. The move could reunite Torres with manager Luis Enrique.

Player request and salary details

Torres decided to leave because he does not feel loved or valued at FC Barcelona, while Paris Saint-Germain presented an irresistible offer. The forward currently earns 10 million euros per year at Barcelona. That salary equals 833,000 euros a month, 194,000 euros a week, or 28,000 euros a day.

Paris Saint-Germain is willing to increase his salary to 14 million euros annually as part of the proposed four-year deal.
