The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. In return, Milwaukee will receive Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and three first-round picks, including the No. 13 selection in Tuesday's NBA Draft and future picks in 2031 and 2033.
Miami will also send Milwaukee a pick swap in 2030 and a second-round pick in 2033. Antetokounmpo, 31, is expected to sign a long-term extension with the Heat after more than a year of speculation about his future in Milwaukee, where the Bucks failed to reach the postseason in 2026.
Despite earlier reports suggesting a third team would be needed, the Bucks-Heat trade was completed without one. The Boston Celtics had also pursued Antetokounmpo, reportedly offering a package built around 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown along with two future first-round picks. The deal is expected to be finalized on July 6, with some minor moving pieces possible as the NBA calendar changes in the coming days.
Miami will send guard Tyler Herro to Milwaukee, where he will join a new youth-focused roster.
Antetokounmpo's cryptic farewell post
Antetokounmpo hinted at his Milwaukee departure earlier in the day with a social media post reading, "GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout." The post featured a black-and-white photo of him walking away from the camera.
Many fans interpreted the post as a farewell. One Bucks fan shared a 2021 photo of Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee's championship run, writing, "We had a good run." Another fan wrote, "Thank you for inspiring me and so many others. You're my basketball GOAT."
Riley's latest marquee addition
Antetokounmpo becomes the latest star acquired during Heat president Pat Riley's tenure, following Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Jimmy Butler. He joins a Heat roster that still includes Bam Adebayo, who scored 83 points in a March win over Washington last season.
The 6-foot-11 Athens native is coming off an injury-plagued season that included knee, calf and groin issues, as the Bucks missed the playoffs entirely while the 10th-place Heat reached the play-in tournament. An NBA champion, two-time MVP and one-time Defensive Player of the Year, Antetokounmpo is entering the final two years of a three-year, $175 million extension, and will be eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in early 2027.
