A Harris County judge in Texas dismissed an illegal firearm possession charge against National Basketball Association star James Harden on Thursday after the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard completed an alternative dispute resolution program. Officers arrested the 36-year-old on June 13 after Houston police found an unholstered handgun inside his vehicle.
The misdemeanor offense carried a penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000, which equals roughly 20,400 Brazilian reais. Court records show that the judge closed the case following Harden's completion of the program, although court documents did not detail the terms of the agreement. Such programs typically involve community service.
Contract Negotiations and Career Statistics
Harden played for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2025/26 season. During the last offseason, he declined a $42.3 million option to automatically renew his contract, an amount worth more than 214 million reais, and he is currently negotiating a new long-term deal with the franchise.
An 11-time All-Star selection and the 2017/18 NBA Most Valuable Player, Harden averages 24.0 points, 7.3 assists and 5.6 rebounds across 1,221 league games, including 1,007 starts. Selected third overall in the 2009 draft, the point guard has played for six franchises during his career.
