Juventus goalkeeper Kamil Grabara has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing a knee cruciate ligament during a training session.
The Polish international suffered the injury during practice on Saturday. Italian media reported that the player is almost certain to miss the remainder of the campaign, forcing the Serie A club to immediately search for a replacement among available free agents.
Grabara had managed to feature in only one match for Juventus before sustaining the injury. His sole appearance came in a 5-0 victory against Dutch club NEC Nijmegen in the UEFA Europa League league phase, where he provided an assist for Nicolas Gonzalez to score the opening goal. Italian journalists indicated that Juventus will not activate an option to buy Grabara from German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg once his loan spell finishes.
Juventus, based in Turin, are one of Italy's most successful football clubs and compete in Serie A, the country's top division. Guglielmo Vicario currently serves as the primary goalkeeper for the side after joining on loan from English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, with an option for Juventus to make the transfer permanent for eight million euros. Carlo Pinsoglio will step up to serve as the main backup to Vicario while Grabara is unavailable.
Free agent targets for short term cover
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Juventus are considering two free agents as short-term cover for Vicario. The club is evaluating 33-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico and 37-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Neto, both of whom are currently without a club.
Rico most recently played for Qatari side Al-Gharafa between 2024 and 2026. The former Spain international, who earned one cap for his national team, previously had spells at Sevilla from 2006 to 2020, English side Fulham from 2018 to 2019, French champions Paris Saint-Germain from 2019 to 2024, and Spanish club Mallorca in 2022.
Neto previously played for Juventus between 2015 and 2017, making 22 appearances and recording 13 clean sheets before being sold to Spanish side Valencia for seven million euros. The veteran goalkeeper recently played for Brazilian club Botafogo from 2025 to 2026, following earlier stints at Barcelona from 2019 to 2022, Premier League side Bournemouth from 2022 to 2025, and Arsenal from 2024 to 2025.
Long term goalkeeper plans and upcoming matches
Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported that Juventus are also looking at long-term options after the current season ends. The Turin club is interested in Atalanta Bergamo goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, who is valued at 50 million euros. The Italian shot-stopper is under contract with Atalanta until June 2028, and is also attracting interest from several English Premier League clubs.
Juventus have started their domestic campaign by taking seven points from their opening four Serie A matches. The Italian side will return to action on Sunday at 18:00 local time when they face Atalanta Bergamo.
