Legia Warsaw are interested in signing Espanyol striker Marcos Fernandez, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, but an injury to Kike Garcia threatens the move. Legia are searching for another center-forward because Mileta Rajovic has failed to deliver goals for the club.
Coach Marek Papszun currently has five strikers in his squad. Alongside Rajovic, the options include 31-time Czech international Jan Kuchta, Lukasz Zjawinski, Rafal Adamski, and Antonio Colak. Colak is currently struggling with an injury and has been put up for sale.
Espanyol buyout clause and rival suitors
Fernandez, 23, spent last season on loan from Espanyol at second-division Ceuta, scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances in the Spanish second tier. Record reported that his release clause is 2 million euros, which could increase to 8 million euros if Espanyol double his salary. Portuguese team Estoril, Spanish clubs Mallorca and Oviedo, English side Preston, and Legia are all monitoring the striker.
However, bringing Fernandez to Poland faces a major hurdle after 36-year-old Espanyol striker Kike Garcia suffered a serious injury expected to keep him out for up to six months. Record reported that Espanyol now see Fernandez as an immediate solution to Garcia's absence, making his departure far more complicated.
Fernandez had joined Espanyol as a free agent in June 2025 after playing mostly for Betis's third-division reserve team. He previously suffered a severe ankle injury that kept him out from July 2023 to February 2024. Legia return to action on Friday, August 14 at 8:30 p.m., hosting Radomiak in round four of the Ekstraklasa.
