Lionel Messi scored twice as Inter Miami beat Mexican side San Luis 4-2 on Wednesday in their Leagues Cup opener. The Argentine forward made his first start for the United States club since the World Cup.
Messi also set up defender Micael to score the final goal of the match. The Brazilian defender is currently on loan from Palmeiras.

The two goals brought Messi to 921 career goals, leaving him 79 short of reaching 1,000. The star player has also registered 419 assists throughout his career.
Inter Miami will play Monterrey of Mexico on Saturday in the second round of the Leagues Cup group stage. The club is targeting its second Leagues Cup title after winning its first trophy in franchise history in the 2023 edition, led by Messi.
