Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, as the Premier League club moves to strengthen its attack following the departure of Mohamed Salah.
Romano reported that talks between the two clubs had progressed well for both sides, declaring his trademark "here we go" on the deal. He said Liverpool had agreed an initial fee of 100 million euros plus add-ons, with a possible total package worth up to 140 million euros for Paris Saint-Germain. Documents were expected to be exchanged within 24 hours, and Romano said Liverpool were achieving their main target with the signing.
Salah's exit to Trabzonspor
The move comes after Liverpool lost Mohamed Salah, whose contract was not renewed before the start of the season. The Egyptian forward spent nine years at Anfield, playing 435 matches and scoring 255 goals, before joining Turkish side Trabzonspor. He turned down offers from clubs in Major League Soccer and an Arab league.
Liverpool's summer rebuild
Liverpool finished last season in fifth place after what the club described as a difficult campaign, and are now aiming to return to the top of English football. Manager Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot before this season, has already brought in defenders Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo, as well as forward Victor Munoz.
The club still needs reinforcements up front. Striker Hugo Ekitike is injured, leaving Iraola to choose between Alexander Isak, Federico Chiesa, Munoz and Cody Gakpo, alongside 17-year-old forward Rio Ngumoha.
Barcola frozen out at PSG
Barcola has not featured for PSG since the start of the season. He was left on the bench for the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Aston Villa, which PSG lost 2-1, and again did not play in the French Super Cup loss to Lens, which finished 0-1. He was left out of the squad entirely for PSG's opening Ligue 1 match against Stade Rennes, which ended 2-2.
Barcola joined PSG from Olympique Lyon in 2023 and is currently valued at 90 million euros. Romano first reported in April that Liverpool had been working on a deal for the winger, saying the club led the race for his signature and that Barcola had given priority to a move to Anfield.
Barcola was one of the standout figures for France at this year's World Cup, scoring three goals and adding one assist in eight appearances totalling 384 minutes.
What happens next
According to Romano, paperwork for the transfer is expected to be finalised within 24 hours of the verbal agreement, which would clear the way for Barcola to move to Liverpool.
