Manchester City have completed the £65 million signing of winger Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, bringing an end to the forward's two-year stay on Merseyside. The Senegal international has joined manager Enzo Maresca's squad at the Etihad Stadium after City moved quickly to beat Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.
Tottenham had agreed terms with Everton for Ndiaye under head coach Roberto De Zerbi before City intervened. According to Daily Mail Sport, Tottenham opened discussions last week when it became apparent that Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo would choose to join Manchester City if the Anfield club agreed to sell.
Ndiaye had turned down multiple contract extension offers from Everton over the past 12 months. Tottenham forward Richarlison had originally been set to return to Goodison Park in a near-swap deal for Ndiaye, but those negotiations stalled, allowing City to pounce.
Everton career and previous transfers
During his two-year spell on Merseyside, Ndiaye scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 74 appearances across all competitions for Everton. He originally arrived at the Liverpool-based club in a £15 million transfer from French Ligue 1 side Marseille in 2024.
De Zerbi was appointed head coach at Marseille just days before Ndiaye was sold to Everton, meaning the forward never played a match under the Italian. Prior to moving to France, Ndiaye had been integral to Sheffield United during their 2023 promotion campaign from the Championship, the second tier of English football. He has earned 44 international caps for Senegal.
Squad restructuring and upcoming debut
Everton are now set to re-sign Jack Grealish from Manchester City as Ndiaye's replacement. The Toffees are seeking to reinforce their attacking line following the departure of their key forward.
Ndiaye could go straight into Maresca's squad for Manchester City's match against Coventry City this weekend. City winger Jeremy Doku remains out injured, which could offer the new Senegal signing an immediate opportunity to make his debut for the Premier League champions.
