Manchester United drew 1-1 against European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg after Bryan Mbeumo equalised following Ibrahim Mbaye's early opening goal.
Similar to their previous victory over Atletico Madrid in Stockholm, Michael Carrick's team fell behind early. PSG took the lead 101 seconds into the match when Mbaye finished off a fast break that caught the United defence unprepared.
Moments later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tested United goalkeeper Tom Heaton with a powerful shot, but Heaton turned it away. Heaton was later forced off with a hamstring problem as United took control of the game.
United equalised when Amad Diallo closed down the PSG defence, recovered possession, and passed to Mbeumo, who scored low and hard into the corner. The goal was Mbeumo's third in two matches as he continued his pre-season role as a striker.
Mason Mount Injury and Midfield Options
Midfielder Mason Mount was forced off inside 20 minutes after clutching his foot. Mount, who joined from Chelsea for £60 million in 2023, jogged off unassisted and spoke with three members of United's medical staff before walking down the tunnel.
The substitution appeared precautionary ahead of upcoming pre-season games against Leeds United in Dublin and AC Milan in Wroclaw. Academy product Tyler Fletcher came on to replace Mount.
Mount had played in a deeper midfield role alongside new £50 million signing Andrey Santos, who also arrived from Chelsea. Mount spoke about his fitness after a 5-0 win over Rosenborg in Trondheim earlier in the summer.

United have already signed Santos and brought in Youri Tielemans for £35 million, with Tielemans playing 25 minutes off the bench against PSG. However, Mount's injury highlights the potential need for another midfielder before the transfer window closes at 11:00 PM on September 1.
Left Back Depth and Defense Options
Carrick deployed Patrick Dorgu on the left wing in Gothenburg, where he occasionally drifted to the right wing against a rotated PSG lineup. Dorgu is listed as a defender on United's squad list, but neither Carrick nor former interim manager Darren Fletcher, who took charge between Ruben Amorim and Carrick, has used him at left back.
With United's coaching staff keeping Dorgu in attacking roles, Luke Shaw remains the club's only established left back. Shaw played steadily and was defensively sound against PSG after starting every Premier League fixture last season.
United made two approaches for Newcastle United left back Lewis Hall, but Newcastle stated they have zero appetite to sell him this summer. Academy defender Harry Amass has been informed that his best chance of playing time will come elsewhere.
United played 40 matches in all competitions last season, their lowest total since the 1914-15 season, compared to Chelsea's 59 matches and Tottenham Hotspur's 52. United expect a heavier schedule with returns to European football and domestic cup runs following last season's defeat at Grimsby Town.
Amad Diallo Performance and Season Outlook
Amad Diallo delivered another strong performance following a 45-minute display against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm. Internal sources at United stated that the 24-year-old Ivorian winger was never at risk of being moved on and remains an integral part of the group.
Amad created United's equaliser by pressing PSG's defence and winning back the ball. The assist was only his second of the calendar year for United, following a single assist earlier in 2026.

Tactical Pressing and Forward Line Setup
Carrick set up United with an aggressive high press against PSG, at times positioning six players in the final third to press out of possession. United also used a zonal press in a 4-4-2 formation.
Academy player Shea Lacey made his third straight pre-season start as a number 10, playing alongside Mbeumo in attack. The match was United's fourth pre-season game, while PSG were playing their second match after winning the Champions League title against Arsenal.
