Neymar Clashes With Remo Directors After Santos Win

Neymar Clashes With Remo Directors After Santos Win

Neymar was involved in a confrontation with Remo directors in the locker room after Santos secured a 1-0 victory in Belem. The win at the Mangueirao stadium guaranteed Santos a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa de Brasil, with the Brazilian forward setting up the decisive goal.

Neymar, con el Santos

During the match, Neymar faced provocations and insults from supporters in the stands. Following the final whistle, a worked-up Neymar reacted in kind toward local club officials in the stadium tunnel, ironically reminding the Remo directors that their team was eliminated from the tournament.

Remo officials responded with insults of their own, with one director calling the all-time leading scorer for the Brazilian national team a piece of trash. Stadium security guards had to intervene to contain the dispute, which sparked widespread reaction across Belem.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward later posted on social media thanking Belem for the affection, accompanying the message with laughing symbols. Addressing the criticism surrounding his behavior, Neymar wrote on social media that he was being targeted by persecution and that critics took pleasure in highlighting his mistakes.

Remo president Antonio Carlos Teixeira voiced strong disapproval of the player. Teixeira said Santos did not need such antics and called Neymar a tramp who is idolized by a group of children. Teixeira added that Neymar had come to provoke them after performing antics on the field, stating that people were at fault for idolizing such individuals.

Controversies Since Santos Return

The confrontation in Belem adds to a series of controversies involving Neymar since his return to Santos in January 2025. These incidents on and off the pitch have repeatedly drawn attention away from his performances for the team.

In June, Neymar denied reports of a dressing room clash with younger Santos players after a draw against Chapecoense. Although reports claimed he had blamed squad members for their performance, Neymar stated that the team had simply held a collective self-criticism session.

Neymar was also criticized for playing in a poker tournament on a scheduled day off while Santos was competing in a Copa Sudamericana match. Defending his choice, Neymar noted that he was not in the match squad and had completed his training routine. When facing questions about the poker event, Neymar remarked that life is a joke.

Training Disputes and National Team Exit

Earlier in the year, Neymar had a training ground altercation with youth player Robinho Jr., an issue later resolved with public apologies. He also engaged in a heated argument with a supporter who confronted him following a Copa Sudamericana draw.

Another incident involved Neymar making a provocative gesture toward spectators in the stands, which he subsequently explained as a simple ear itch. He also issued an apology after using an expression considered sexist when criticizing match refereeing.

On the international level, Neymar acknowledged his own decline and stepped away from continuing with Brazil, stating that he believed his moment had passed. His international campaign ended following an exchange of provocations with Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland during Brazil's elimination from the World Cup.
