The Brazilian player's previous contract was set to expire in June 2027. Real Madrid management wanted to complete the contract extension before the player could potentially leave for free as a free agent during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Vinicius Jr. arrived at Real Madrid in July 2018 at 18 years old. During his eight seasons playing for the team, he has made 375 appearances, scored 128 goals, and won 14 titles. His trophy record with the club includes two Champions League titles, three Club World Cups, two European Super Cups, three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups.
In its official statement, Real Madrid highlighted his performances in major matches, specifically pointing to his goals in the two Champions League finals he won in 2022 and 2024. The club also pointed to his individual accolades, including winning the FIFA The Best award in 2024, his selection to the FIFA World 11 in 2024, and his inclusion in the Champions League team of the season in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Preseason return and executive talks
Vinicius Jr. rejoined Real Madrid for preseason training on Monday after taking a vacation following his participation in the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada with Brazil. On Wednesday, the player trained alongside his teammates while Real Madrid executives José Ángel Sánchez and Juni Calafat met at the club offices to negotiate the agreement that successfully concluded in his renewal.
