Portuguese midfielder Rodrigo Mora has completed his transfer from FC Porto to Italian club Roma after traveling to Rome to sign his contract. The 19-year-old creative player flew to the Italian capital early on Tuesday afternoon alongside football agent Jorge Mendes to complete the final steps of the move.
FC Porto officially confirmed the agreement following the player's arrival in Italy. In an official statement, the Portuguese club wished the teenage midfielder the greatest happiness as he embarks on the next stage of his professional career.
Financial terms and contract structure
FC Porto detailed the financial terms of the deal in a regulatory announcement, confirming that Roma will pay an initial fixed fee of 25 million euros for 50 percent of Mora's sports registration and economic rights. The transaction also includes up to 2 million euros in variable bonuses linked to specific sporting conditions, bringing the initial deal package to 27 million euros.
Under the terms of the agreement, Roma holds an option to acquire the remaining 50 percent of the player's economic rights for a total of 25 million euros. Porto also retained an unconditional sell option on their remaining share for the same reference value of 25 million euros, which obliges Roma to complete the purchase if Porto chooses to sell.
If Roma does not acquire the full economic rights, Porto retains the option to sell all remaining rights to ensure a minimum total payout of 50 million euros. Alternatively, Porto may choose to retain a custom percentage of his rights to benefit from any future transfer at a higher value.
Porto confirmed that no deductions will be made from their receipts under the FIFA solidarity mechanism. The club also declared that it will incur intermediation service costs equal to 10 percent of the total transaction value.
Development and senior breakthrough at Porto
Mora leaves Porto after progressing through every age group of the club's youth academy system. FC Porto, based in the northern city of Porto, is one of Portugal's top football institutions, competing regularly in the Primeira Liga and European competitions.
The midfielder made his professional debut in January 2023 for FC Porto B, the club's reserve team competing in Portugal's second division. Across 34 appearances for Porto B, Mora scored five goals and registered two assists.
His first-team debut came in September 2024. Since breaking into the senior squad, the 19-year-old midfielder has made 80 appearances, scored 16 goals, and provided six assists in all competitions.
During his tenure with the senior team, Mora won one Portuguese national league title and one Candido de Oliveira Supercup. The Supercup is Portugal's annual match contested between the reigning league champions and the domestic cup winners.
Next steps in Italian football
The transfer marks Mora's first move abroad as he joins Roma in Serie A. Roma are one of Italian football's established top-flight clubs, playing their home matches at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Following the confirmation of his departure to the Italian league, FC Porto concluded their statement by offering their best wishes for his future career.
