Sevilla agree 10m euro deal to sell Oso to Strasbourg

Sevilla FC are finalizing the transfer of defender Joaquín Martínez 'Oso' to French side Racing Club de Strasbourg for a fixed fee of 10 million euros plus variables. The Spanish-Argentine academy graduate did not take part in Sevilla's final training session ahead of their La Liga fixture against Atlético de Madrid and has traveled to France to complete the deal.

Negotiations between the two clubs concluded with an agreement on the 10 million euro base fee, alongside various add-on incentives designed to bring the total package closer to Sevilla's initial 15 million euro valuation. The Andalusian club has also secured a 10 percent share of the capital gain on any future sale of the left wing-back, with only an official announcement remaining before the move is finalized.

Oso, a youth academy product who plays primarily as a left wing-back, leaves Sevilla after developing through the club's youth system. Sevilla compete in Spain's top division, La Liga, while Strasbourg play in France's Ligue 1 and are based in the eastern region of Alsace.

Sevilla Restructure Squad Before Transfer Deadline

The departure of the left-sided defender leaves Sevilla manager Luis García Plaza without Oso for Saturday's league encounter against Atlético de Madrid. The player's exit requires a swift response from Sevilla executive José Ignacio Navarro, who is managing the club's transfer window strategy to find a replacement on the flank.

Oso's departure, combined with the confirmed loan of left-back Adrià Pedrosa to Rayo Vallecano, brings Sevilla to a total of 18 departures during the current transfer window. The roster overhaul comes as the club continues its domestic campaign following a recent 3-1 victory against Athletic Club.

Sevilla's board has not ruled out further high-profile exits before the window closes, with midfielder Lucien Agoumé and winger Rubén Vargas among those who could still depart. Offers for Vargas from Greek side Olympiacos and Italian club Bologna remain pending as negotiations hinge on whether either team will meet Sevilla's financial demands.

Vargas, a Swiss international, was left out of Sevilla's squad for their match against Athletic Club to avoid any injury that might compromise a potential transfer. In addition to player departures, Sevilla have also completed incoming business by officially signing Giorgi Kochorashvili on a contract through 2030.

Strasbourg Reinvesting Transfer Windfall

Racing Club de Strasbourg are using the acquisition of Oso to reinvest part of the 40 million euros received from the sale of Valentín Barco to Chelsea FC. The Premier League side is managed by Xabi Alonso.

The negotiations between Strasbourg and Sevilla were facilitated by the close institutional relationship between the French club and Chelsea, as both teams share the same ownership group.
