Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was pictured arriving at Old Trafford wearing a protective boot on his lower left leg on Sunday ahead of the team's Premier League match against Ipswich Town.
The 84-year-old former Red Devils boss was assisted out of his vehicle as he arrived at the stadium. Ferguson also used a walking stick to help maintain his balance as he entered the venue. As he stepped out of the car, a loud cheer greeted the iconic Scottish manager from the gathering of United supporters outside the ground.
Ferguson was later seen inside Old Trafford watching Manchester United take on Ipswich Town in what was the club's first home fixture of the Premier League season. He joined thousands of supporters in attending the match at the Manchester venue.
Sir Alex Ferguson remains the most celebrated figure in the history of Manchester United. The Scot spent 26 years at the helm of the club, establishing an era of success in English football. During his spell at Old Trafford, commonly known as the Theatre of Dreams, Ferguson guided United to 38 trophies. His silverware tally at the club included 13 Premier League titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns before his retirement from management.
Manchester United Premier League Campaign
The match against Ipswich Town provided United with an opportunity to bounce back after a frustrating start to their Premier League campaign. Manchester United lost their season opener away against new boys Hull City on August 22.
Now under the management of Michael Carrick, who previously spent over a decade playing as a midfielder for Manchester United under Ferguson, the team aimed to turn their fortunes around in front of their home crowd. Ferguson and the majority of fans inside Old Trafford were hoping that Carrick's side could deliver a positive result to give supporters something to smile about following the opening defeat.
