Sorba Thomas made a substitute appearance for Hull City against Chelsea on Saturday, less than 24 hours after flipping his £160,000 Land Rover on his way to training.
The 27-year-old winger walked away unharmed from the crash, which happened on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham at around 8.30am on Friday. His grey Land Rover Defender, which carries a personalised number plate, was pictured lying on its roof with its windows smashed.
Hull City said in a statement that it was aware of images of Thomas's car circulating on social media and could reassure supporters that he had sustained no injuries, emerging from the vehicle completely unscathed.
Witnesses describe the crash
A woman who lives at the scene told the BBC that the crash woke her up. She said she was lying in bed when she heard a crash and a bang, then came downstairs to find the car in her hedge.
An NHS worker who lives on the same road said the accident had blocked it and left him unable to get to work, adding that patients would miss appointments because of it.
Thomas travels to Stamford Bridge
Despite the crash, Thomas travelled to London and was pictured heading into Stamford Bridge ahead of Hull City's Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. He was brought on for Elliot Stroud in the 60th minute.
Thomas, who has been capped 27 times by Wales, has now featured three times for the Tigers since completing a £10 million deadline-day move from Championship side Stoke City earlier this month.
Manager's praise before the crash
Hours before the crash, Hull City manager Jakirovic had praised the winger, saying he had no doubt about his capability to play in the Premier League.
He said: "I don't have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship. He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left-sided number ten. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good. Also, he has very good set-pieces."
He added: "He is sharp and has speed. Also, in defence, he is very responsible. I think he suits us a lot. Like always, I hope he can help us."
A whirlwind week for Thomas
Thomas started Hull's 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland on Tuesday night and had earlier come off the bench in the club's 0-0 Premier League draw against Aston Villa, described in the report as the Europa League champions.
After that cameo, Thomas shared his delight on Instagram, writing: "Pinch (me) moment for me and my family today!!! Premier League debut."
