WNBA games disrupted in Chicago and Los Angeles by sex toys

Chicago Sky and Los Angeles Sparks WNBA games were interrupted on consecutive nights after spectators threw sex toys onto the court during live play.

The home game for the Chicago Sky against the Golden State Valkyries was halted on Friday night when several sex toys were thrown onto the playing surface. The disruption occurred during the third quarter of the match, which the Sky won 73-70. Players remained on the court while arena staff moved in to clear the objects.

The Friday incident followed a similar delay on Thursday during Atlanta's 124-88 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, according to The New York Times. Los Angeles police reported that stadium security personnel detained a suspect at the arena, who was issued a citation and subsequently released.

The back-to-back disruptions mirror a series of incidents that took place across Women's National Basketball Association venues during the 2025 season. Similar court disruptions were recorded at games in Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles, with some of the incidents resulting in arrests.

During a 2025 match in which the Golden State Valkyries defeated the Atlanta Dream 77-75 at the Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia, an individual was arrested after throwing a sex toy onto the court, as confirmed by the WNBA. The lime green object was thrown from the stands and landed near the free-throw line shortly after Atlanta player Maya Caldwell blocked a three-point shot attempt by Golden State's Tiffany Hayes. Referees did not stop play while the object bounced toward the sideline before a police officer retrieved it using a towel.

Days after the College Park incident in 2025, another sex toy was thrown onto the floor during Golden State's 73-66 victory against the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.

Creators of the cryptocurrency 'Green Dildo Coin' later admitted that the series of incidents was part of a plan to gain public attention without paying social media influencers.

The WNBA is the premier professional women's basketball league in the United States, featuring franchises including the Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks, Atlanta Dream, and Golden State Valkyries. League venues maintain strict security policies prohibiting spectators from throwing items onto the court to ensure player and official safety.
