(San Diego) Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber both scored at home, Zack Wheeler allowed a hit in seven working innings, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres 2-0 on Tuesday in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the National League.
Wheeler and two relievers combined to limit the Padres to one in-game hit. The Phillies amassed just three hits at the expense of Yu Darvish and the Padres’ bullpen—the four hits total in a game tied the record for the lowest total hits in a series game.
The Phillies will look to open a 2-0 lead when they send Aaron Nola to face Blake Snell on Wednesday afternoon. Aaron Nola will face his brother Austin Nola, receiver of the Padres.
The Padres eliminated the Los Angeles Dodgers, who won 111 games, in their second-round series. The hosts sent just four hitters on base in the game, including a single from Wil Myers in the fifth inning. However, they had a chance to win in the ninth against José Alvarado.

Jurickson Profar walked one with one out, then Juan Soto reached first base when third baseman Alec Bohm made a poor pitch to second base. However, moments later, Manny Machado’s arrow was easily caught and Alvarado eliminated Josh Bell in the final.
Harper, trying to reach his first World Series final, hit the long ball into left field in the fourth.
It was the fourth playoff homer for Harper, who was playing in San Diego for the first time since breaking his left thumb. He was hit by a pitch from Blake Snell on June 25, which sidelined him for two months.
Harper managed to send the ball over the wall in the third straight playoff game. The two-time National League Most Valuable Player champion, who won the award last year, has hit nine homers in 26 career playoff games.
Schwarber’s shot, at the expense of Darvish’s first pitch in the sixth, was accurate.
