(Philadelphia) Kyle Schwarber hit a resounding home run and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Friday night.
Jean Segura bounced back from an expensive mistake and hit a single that put the Phillies ahead. The Philadelphia team leads the National Championship series 2-1 and the fourth game will take place on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies have returned home for their first Championship Series home game since 2010. They are just two wins away from reaching the World Series for the first time since 2008.
The Phillies can say they beat the Padres without playing their best baseball. Aside from the Schwarber circuit, the stars were quite calm. Segura and Rhys Hoskins also made a mistake that made the match closer than it should have been.

Phillies holder Ranger Suarez still recorded the win. He allowed a well-deserved run and two hits in five working innings. Zach Eflin and José Alvarado did not give up their entry and Seranthony Dominguez had six outs to save his team’s victory.
After a ninth inning elimination, and with a runner at base, Dominguez took Jurickson Profar out of the hit while the Padres player kept up the pace. Profar threw and kicked the helmet before being kicked out.
“Initially, it looked like the bat went through home plate,” said Padres manager Bob Melvin. When you go back to the footage and watch it, maybe the baton has not passed. It’s hard, just barely, but maybe not. It’s obviously a big moment. »
The Padres’ playoff ace Joe Musgrove failed to complete the sixth inning and came off the mound after Alec Bohm hit a one-run double to give the teams a 4-2 lead. Phillies.
“We pride ourselves on being able to beat the best,” said Bohm. We see one of these guys on the mound against us and we’re going to give it our all. »
Schwarber was facing a full count when he scored his second goal of four in the series. The ball traveled 405 feet into the right field stands.
The Phillies looked ready to bully Musgrove in this entry, after hikes to Hoskins and JT Realmuto. Bryce Harper, however, committed to a double play and Nick Castellanos was retired on a ball.
“I didn’t feel like I was at my best tonight,” Musgrove said. I haven’t felt this bad in a while. »
Suárez should have made a clean break in the fourth set, but Segura messed up the ball in a possible double play. A run was scored to tie the game at 1-1.
Segura rebounded by hitting a two-run single in the fourth inning to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. He was eliminated at first base.
“I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but that’s part of baseball,” said Segura, who is heading to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years at the Majors. You move on. It happens. I redeemed myself. »
Meanwhile, Hoskins missed a routine ground ball from Trent Grisham in the fifth inning. Grisham ended up coming in to score after a low ball from Ha-Seong Kim.
