(Houston) After two failures in three years, the Houston Astros managed to celebrate the World Series title again.
Yordan Alvarez scored in the sixth inning and the Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 Saturday night in Game 6 of the World Series.
With José Altuve and Jeremy Pena on the trails, Alvarez catapulted a shot from the reliever José Alvarado into center field to give the Astros a 3-1 lead.
“As I rounded second base, I felt the whole stadium move,” Alvarez said.

At age 73, Dusty Baker also won his first World Series as a coach, after two failed attempts, and at age 25and season as manager. He did, however, have a championship ring in 1981, when he wore the colors of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Baker has spent the past three seasons in charge of the Astros, restoring the team’s credibility in the wake of the stolen signals scandal that cost manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow their jobs.
Baker is the longest-serving coach or coach to win a championship in any of the top four North American sports.

“What’s the next step? I said if I win one World Series, I want to win a second one,” Baker said.
Pena, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the All-American Championship Series, was named the Most Valuable Player of the World Series in his rookie season in Major League Baseball.
Christian Vazquez gave the Astros a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning when he hit a single that sent Alex Bregman home.
The rest of the game was the Astros succession business. Hector Neris, Bryan Abreu and Ryan Pressly allowed the Phillies just one hit in three innings on the mound.
Pressly ended the debate when he forced Nick Castellanos to raise a sail for right field. It was his sixth defense since the playoffs began.
The Phillies opened the scoring early in the sixth inning with a resounding long ball from Kyle Schwarber at the expense of incumbent Framber Valdez.
Valdez was once again very effective on the mound, allowing just two hits and two walks in six working innings. He came out of the stalemate in the second race when there were two riders on the trails.
The Astros southpaw eliminated nine opponents and achieved a third unbeaten playoff win.
Phillies starter Zack Wheeler dropped out of two runs, three hits and a walk in five and a third inning for the mound. He ended a threat in the third round when Chas McCormick went to second base.
Wheeler, however, ran into trouble in the sixth inning. Martin Maldonado was hit, but was out at second base at Altuve’s option. Pena hit a single to put the runners on the diamond tips.
“I thought Wheels still had a lot going on. It wasn’t about that. I just thought the match between Alvarado and Alvarez was better for us at this point,” said Phillies coach Rob Thomson.
Facing Alvarado, Alvarez then landed a shot to his liking and sent the ball traveling 450 feet from home plate.
“This time what I did was try to stay calm and pick a good kick to start with,” Alvarez said. That’s what I did. »
“It was a bit of a tough round and before the series started I always thought I would send Alvarado against Alvarez,” Thomson insisted. It was the sixth entry and I felt like regular relievers could get away with it after that. »
The Phillies were trying to force Game 7 for a chance to win the World Series for the first time since 2008.
