(New York) Trevor Bauer was reinstated Thursday by Major League Baseball’s independent umpire, allowing the starting pitcher to restart his career in 2023.
The Dodgers pitcher was handed an unprecedented two-season, unpaid suspension by Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred on April 29 for violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy.
The punishment came shortly after a San Diego woman said Bauer had beaten and sexually abused her last year, an accusation the pitcher has denied.
The players’ association filed a complaint on Bauer’s behalf, and a three-person panel, led by independent arbitrator Martin Scheinman, began hearing the case on May 23.

MLB said Scheinman maintained a 194-game suspension, while immediately reinstating Bauer.
Bauer will forfeit wages for the last 144 games of last season and the first 50 games of next season – until May 23, if there are no delays.
This represents a shortfall of more than $37 million.
The Dodgers will have to decide by Jan. 6 whether to keep Bauer. If they release him, they will be liable for the balance of the salary owed to him.

The 31-year-old right-hander has an 83-69 record and a 3.79 average over 10 major league seasons.
