(Kansas City) Brady Singer pitched five innings, MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer as the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 on Monday night for their first victory of the season.

Nicky Lopez hit a two-run triple and Bobby Witt Jr. hit two singles, adding a run apiece, as the Royals took a 7–0 fourth-inning lead.

Singer (1-0) allowed just two hits, two Matt Chapman doubles, three walks and three strikeouts. He is 7-0 with a 1.68 ERA in his last 10 games at Kauffman Stadium since June 26 of last year.

The Blue Jays struck again in the fifth with a double and a pair of walks, but Singer limited the damage with a one-run double play.
