Max Scherzer was ejected from the New York Mets’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday after officials performed the usual inspection of his glove before the bottom of the fourth inning.
Scherzer was furious when he was ejected by umpire Phil Cuzzi after his glove was inspected and a lengthy conversation that included home plate umpire Dan Bellino, head of the umpiring staff. The 38-year-old right-hander had already been instructed by referees to change his gloves before stepping onto the mound a set earlier, at the end of the third.
Scherzer yelled “It’s resin!” to Bellino and Cuzzi before being kicked out.
Mets head coach Buck Showalter came off the bench for a lengthy discussion with the officials, while Scherzer reluctantly entered the dugout.
Scherzer pitched three scoreless innings before being ejected in his fourth start of the season.
