(Pittsburgh) Bryan Reynolds chose to stay with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The veteran outfielder has agreed to an eight-year, $106.75 million contract, three sources with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday. They spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity, as the settlement would be conditional on a medical examination.

It would prove to be the most lucrative contract in Pirates history, and Reynolds would become another bulwark for the club as they tried to avoid finishing bottom of the National League Central for a fifth straight season.

The 28-year-old played in the 2021 All-Star Game and is hitting . 294 with five home runs and 18 RBIs this season. The team started the campaign 16-7 and will start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.

The pact also comes less than five months after Reynolds asked to be traded.

The deal includes a €2m signing bonus, an option year left to the club’s discretion for 2031 and a no-trade clause limited to six teams.

The ambidextrous hitter, known for his calm temperament, joined the Pirates in January 2018 in a mega-deal that earned San Francisco Giants 2013 Nationals MVP Andrew McCutchen.
