(Toronto) Toronto Blue Jays reliever Anthony Bass has apologized for sharing a homophobic post on social media.

Bass spoke briefly with media representatives hours before the Blue Jays-Milwaukee Brewers game on Tuesday. He read a statement and the journalists present were not allowed to ask questions.

Bass, 35, shared an Instagram post from another creator on Monday using “biblical reasons” to call for a boycott of Bud Light and Target, which have publicly supported the LGBTQ+ community.

Bass said he has apologized to his teammates and intends to use the resources offered by the Blue Jays to better educate himself.

He added that “the baseball field is for everyone” and that the Blue Jays want to welcome everyone.
